Bad condenser
That would explain the no start when hot. Thanks for watching.
Does it have a clutch lever switch that prevents starting the bike without pulling the clutch? And does that switch need cleaned/replaced? Or the contacts of that switch.
No safety switch for clutch or side stand. Cleaning the run switch couldn’t hurt. Thanks for watching.
Maby u need a multi tool for these little test rides
Need to upgrade the baby knife to a multi-tool. Thanks for watching.
The last time I walked my motorcycle, I was stopped by the police.
I wish the cops would have stopped. They could have given me a use home. 😂🤣😂Thanks for watching.
20 secs of actual content stretched over a time wasting 15+min.
Thanks for watching.
Gremlins!!
Don’t get them wet or feed the after midnight. Thanks for watching.
@@motorcyclerewind I completely agree with your philosophy of working out. I have a membership at a local gym. My son is the manager. He keeps telling me, "Dad, you need to get to the gym and work out. You're getting old and soft!" I say, hey I;m restoring motorcycles in the heat, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling sweating, huffing, puffing and eventually in the end I have a running bike. Just completed a 650 engine swap and top end rebuild on my 1981 Suzuki GS550T. Bike was mint with a blown engine. Found a 650 for 150 bucks (Canadian). Got her running yesterday. What an amazing feeling!
Still think if not coils, ignition switch and kill switch might be the culprit.
The switch is dodgy. Thanks for watching.
Check for a bad fuse holder or a bad connection at ignition switch
Those are great suggestions. Thanks for watching.
Check the coils?
That’s on my list. Thanks for watching.
Back to basics . Charge the Battery , and do a Load Test . Check Battery connections have not corroded , With Instructions from the manual , or the Web , check your charging system . Check coils output , and wiring at both ends . Is there a battery cutoff switch that is failing . . I had similar , start to give it a bit of throttle , and it would cut out , ride steady no problem . One Day I decided to go through everything , put a spanner on the Battery Negative terminal , one hand holding the cable , and the cable came away with the bolt still in the Terminal , what had happened , was the ring terminal had slit , and , when giving it throttle , the vibration caused the two pieces to separate , shut the throttle , vibrations ceased , terminals went back together , engine run O.K .
That’s a great suggestion. Currently it starts every time I try on its own battery. Thanks for watching.
it’s a strange one i think it’s not gas at all it’s electric ⚡️
I agree with you. Thanks for watching.
I have one and the gears get jammed, are they hard to repair?
I can imagine. Thanks for watching.
Bad earth and battery, coils, points, condensor? Great bike and an awesome video again Eric.
I am going to test all components. Thanks for watching.
Eric what kind of ignition system does it have? I mean points or CDI.
Love the kz750's....thanks
I do too. Was not liking this that much the other day. 😂🤣😂Thanks for watching.
It’s not running on all the cylinders
It’s running on two cylinders, sounds like a twin
It only has two cylinders.
@@motorcyclerewind I’m sorry, I thought it was a four cylinder engine
That`s one way to save gas!
🤣😂🤣and burn some calories. Thanks for watching.
I bought a new one in 1979. It was a great bike
They are a cool bike. Thanks for watching.
Oh man, I hope you have recovered alright, pushing that old barge in that heat, not for the faint of heart Eric. It needs a complete tear down of the electrics, and the fuel system before you try to take it for another run.
I cleaned the carbs and tank. The crazy thing is that I have started it over and over again on the battery since returning. Not a single issue. Would love it to stop that so I can find the fault. Thanks for watching.
Cracked main fuse?
That’s a good idea. I visually checked the fuse did not pull it. Thanks for watching.
Battery and voltage regulator...
Looks like I will be testing all the electrical components.
the red light is comming and going while u drive....
That’s the brake indicator light. Thanks for watching.
Is that the twin or the four cylinder ?
Twin
Shit happens.......... Dud battery that. Also regulator/rectifer.
Gonna be checking it all out. The crazy thing is that it has started every time I walk by it and I did nothing to it.
@@motorcyclerewindja thats typical Erick. Had the same thing happen to me.
What is the red light at the bottom of the instruments? It kept coming on at low revs
Brake indicator.
Pulse Generators/Coils? If it was on old fashioned Points I would renew the Condensers.
I am thinking coils and condensers. Thanks for watching.
Sounds like fuel starvation, coupled with possibly a charging problem, z750 dont sound like twins (unless it is actually a z750 twin - they did make one), camera sound may not be what you are hearing, but on camera it sounds like it only runs on 2 when it is running, just had a similar problem on my V65 Magna, so I know that sound and feeling. No idea on your electrics, condenser?
It’s a twin. 1978 Kawasaki KZ750.
@@motorcyclerewind Ahh, OK, they also made a 4 cylinder KZ750 at the same time, my bad. In Europe they dont use the K so the same model in EU/UK is called the Z750 and what you guys call the KZ1000 is the Z1000
Should have gone home as soon as you got it running the first time.
In retrospect that sounds like a good idea. Thanks for watching.
I had 50 yr old kz. The seat pan would collapse slightly grounding out on battery poles . The bike would die just like that
That’s a great suggestion. Thanks for watching.
Coil shorting out when it gets warm?
The coils is a place I want to start to look. Thanks for watching.
arnold schwarzenegger is The Terminator, Eric is The Turbonator
I like it. May need to to make that into a t-shirt once I ride the turbo.
Coil?
That’s what I’m thinking. The confusing part is the no power after it dies. Thanks for watching.
Sounds like Missing a cylinder and Battery is shot and I don't think that bike will run on a total loss of Batt. power! I know How My pool feels on a hot day enjoy, I hope you took out your wallet LOL LOL!
The crazy thing is since it has been home. It has started every time I walk past it on the battery. All I did to it was push it home.
Try to fix a bike first before driving.
That’s sounds so reasonable. Besides it was running great on the stand.
Hey great video. Was interesting going on the "diagnostic journey" with you. It definitely sounds like its cutting out fuel then once it sits the bowls fill back up, but also an obvious charging issue as well. Just from my own experience I've had issues with slightly pinched lines and even those cheap inline filters and low amounts of gas. It's just enough of a restriction and not enough weight of the fuel to make it to the carbs as it's running. Let it sit for a minute, then fires back up. Keep up the good work man, it's great seeing the channel grow. Side note: I just saw you got merch! Ordering a shirt 👍😁
The total loss of power is what’s confusing. Thanks for ordering a shirt.
I was mistaken for thinking it was a twin. Sounds like the Kawi twin I had, check your coils and the CV slide rubbers.
It’s a twin. After watching the footage back I think it could be coils. Good idea on the slides. Thanks for watching.
Sounds like it's only on 2 cylinders as well as the electrical issues, besides a battery issue , might be worth looking at the side stand/clutch cut out switch .
It only has two. Good idea on the safety switches. Thanks for watching.
@@motorcyclerewind that explains why it sounds like a twin lol i thought it was the KZ inline 4 , the twins are quite rare these days .
I just bit the bullet and order a Voltage Regulator / Rectifier from common-motors last night. Love that vendor. My wish list there is a long one. In the mean time, Im working on the electrical this weekend. Hope I have better luck... Lol
Common motor is awesome. Thanks for watching.
@@motorcyclerewind You post em' Ill watch em'!!
What about the 750 Kawasaki?
The damn thing has started every time I turn the key without the jump pack. And I did nothing to it but push it home. 🤣😂🤣
"I'm just getting further from home". Much respect for your tenacity!
I am a gluten for punishment.
I know that pool had to feel good.
You would know. Thanks for watching.
I could only hear one cylinder working. Seemed like the other was along for the walk. I would be testing or replacing the coils with something used you have around the shop.
The right cylinder was in and out.
I laughed big when you went into the pool. I tried to think of what might be wrong but every time my idea seemed to be a dead end. Bummer
It was so hot. Took me over 30 minutes to get home.
You bench press motorcycles!
Yes sir!!! 🤣😂🤣 Thanks for watching.
When you get back home charge the battery to full charge and see if it runs any different and check the charging.
Sounds like it's missing on one cylinder or the charging system isn't putting out!
That's gotta be a steam bath even in the shade.
Ridiculously hot. Especially while riding uncooperative motorcycles. Never ride them further than you want to push them. 🤣😂🤣
@@motorcyclerewind Your right, I had a Sportster that had Gremlins in it one time 😂.
Eric, do you ever stop for a rest? Seems not, which is good for us watching in. Thanks for posting.👍
Sometimes! I don't do much else. Thankfully, Keri allows me the time to be in the shop!
Quite an informative video 👍 I'm dealing with a similar motorcycle engine ( 2 stroke). The motorcycle was in storage outdoors for 5 years. Now, while revamping it, found the engine seized. Upon opening the head found severe corrosion deposits hardened on the cylinder wall. Moisture could have made its way via exhaust and maybe head gasket. I am soaking the piston and cylinder wall with diesel, WD-40 and 2T oil. After a week, the build-up seems to be loosening and fragmenting... Still a long way to go before I can see the piston moving... Is this good enough? Thanks
Patience is your friend and a hammer and a big block of wood.
@@motorcyclerewind Thanks... That's exactly what I am doing... Hope it pays off.
Just replace the Brake light / Ign. Switch assembly also. I dropped that teeny tiny spring in the Hi/Low beam switch!!! I could not find it. Next day I pushed a big magnet around the floor and got it!! Huzzah. It was tricky putting all back together.
Way to keep looking. Thanks for watching.
